With the new year approaching, many people make New Year’s resolutions. I do not because they seem like a diet rather than a lifestyle change. However, I do like to evaluate my life and see where I can create positive change to become more of the person I aspire to be. For this upcoming year, I have a few plans to make it my most mindful year yet.
Calm Sleep Stories
I have been experimenting with Calm Meditation’s Sleep Stories, and I love them! Each narrator describes lush landscapes and tranquil scenes that fill you with a sense of peace and calm. Some of my favorites are “Rumpelstiltskin Learns to Meditate,” “The Wicked Witch Learns Mindfulness,” and “The Big, Bad Wolf Learns Anger Management.” These stories are magic, each holding a helpful, mindful theme. Each story has been beautifully adapted for Calm to help you drift off into peaceful slumber easily. These stories help me to round out my mindfulness each day, and I intend to continue with them through the new year.
The Tapping Solution for Day-to-Day Help
One of the most useful apps on my iPhone is the Tapping Solution app. It’s like having an EFT coach right there in my pocket. If I start experiencing anxiety, fear, pain, or other issues, I can pull it out, do a few tapping rounds and soften my emotions quickly. It is a fantastic resource that I cannot recommend enough. This can be a stressful time of year with a lot of social gatherings with family and friends, and some of us need all the help we can get. You never know what challenges 2020 might bring, so I will keep this app by my side whenever I need a little help.
Resistance and Judgement
For 2020 I plan to work on my resistance to things, people, sensations, and situations. My default setting is to resist first and then kicking and screaming, eventually, give in and find acceptance. My goal for the new year is to try and start with acceptance and let go of a little resistance. I am working on this through a mindful set of meditations.
Judgment is another challenge I am faced with and hope to work on diligently in the new year. Even if I just let go of a little, I know I would be happier and healthier. I judge myself just as harshly or perhaps more so than others. We could all use a little less judgment and a lot more compassion and empathy.
Mindful Odds and Ends
I plan on buying Gabby Bernstein’s new “Super Attractor” book and reading it over the holidays. By using Gabby’s wisdom and methods, I hope to manifest an even more abundant life full of happiness, healthiness, and peace.
I periodically sign up for a Deepak Chopra 21-day meditation series. I have found these programs to be very impactful. By focusing on just one area of improvement or expansion for three weeks, the results are powerful.
For the past two months, I have used an Insight Timer meditation by David Ji for deep healing. David Ji has an amazing voice that soothes you into a hypnotic state. His meditation series promises a profound shift and a physical change in your brain when you are done. I used it the first time for the healing of my digestive system. It worked like a miracle! I am now starting a new session, which will take me into the new year with a different focus and intention. What a great find!
Recently, I was awarded three audiobooks through Audible due to a class-action lawsuit I knew nothing about. So, I happily scooped up Eckhart Tolle’s book “The Power of Now,” and Joe Dispenza’s book “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One.” I can’t wait to start both of them and benefit from these two spiritual gurus and their teachings.
Ringing in the New Year with the Promise of More Mindfulness
Using prayer, I have been in a more mindful state more often lately. It helps me to see areas of improvement that I want to focus on. My main goal for 2020 is to be more mindful in all areas of my life, more frequently. The path to get there includes prayer, reading spiritual texts, meditation, acceptance, non-judgment, empathy, and compassion for myself and others. I hope you will join me on your own mindful journey into the new decade!
