I don’t know about you, but I hate being told what to do. It’s my stubborn side even if the person telling me what to do is me!

I read a lot of spiritual guidance books, watch videos and listen to podcasts of gurus in the spiritual enlightenment space. They all talk about fear. Fear is crippling and destructive, but it can also ruin your life if you let it.

Who is Running the Show Here?

For many years I let fear dictate how I behaved, where I went, what I ate, what I did and how I lived my life, which turned out to be very shallowly. I used to be afraid of everything.

Outwardly I looked like a confident, successful businesswoman but inside I was a wreck, worrying about every little thing and then some!

I wasn’t always like that, but over time, as traumas and adverse events happened in my life, I let myself get pulled under and let fear take over and run the show.

Too Many Fears to Count

I was afraid of the changing seasons. I worried about how I would get everything done in time. I worried about my health issues. I worried when I had to drive somewhere unfamiliar. I stressed over interactions with clients and even friends. I sometimes canceled plans due to my fears. You name it, I was afraid of it.

Little by little my life got smaller and smaller until I barely recognized myself. I realized it was time for a change.

Time to Let Go of Fear

I don’t think we even realize it, but we often cling to things which are bad for us. Perhaps on some deep level, we do get something out of it. Maybe we like to play the victim card and get sympathy, or perhaps to be the martyr; I am suffering over here but I will still help you, but I am going to make you feel bad about it. Fear takes over and limits you. You may not even be aware of how much fear affects your life.

Fear is something which creeps in slowly, furtively and we barely notice it until it has us by the throat and we wonder, how did that get here?

All it takes to live a life without fear is to take that first step. Take action towards healing. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as it helps you change your life and allows you to live fuller, more exciting, happy life.
