We all have stuff that bothers us and makes life feel challenging. Some days my emotions go up and down like a seesaw. Trying to be and stay in alignment can be hard. I have been trying this new technique with physical discomfort and mental unrest, and because of it, I feel better every day. I wanted to share it with you so you can feel better too.

Negative emotions can cause serious health issues and even minor aches and pains. But when you are feeling poorly, the hardest thing in the world is to make yourself feel better quickly.

You Can’t Get There From Here

Abraham Hicks says it often “you can’t get there from here.” So what does that mean? It means you can’t jump from one end of the emotional stick to the other. For example, say you are in a miserable mood, and everything is irritating you. You try to tell yourself “life is wonderful and I feel so good.” There is no way you are going to believe it, and you won’t have changed anything.

However, if you move up the emotional scale a tiny bit and then a bit more, you will find yourself feeling better despite how much you might want to stay in that bad mood.

On a day when people and situations are frustrating you, take a minute, stop and look around. Find one thing that makes you feel good, no matter how small. It can be a picture on your desk or a favorite coffee drink. Bask in how much you enjoy that one tiny item. Changing your focus will elevate your mood for a few minutes from that dark place to a lighter one, and you will feel better. Try to keep it going with even more pleasant thoughts. Play around with it and see how long you can take a break from your bad mood. Allow yourself to switch focus from the ugly stuff to beautiful things. You will be shocked by the result of this simple exercise.

Small Increments of Better Feeling Thoughts

Something I have been doing as a regular practice now is when I am sitting to watch TV, or even when I first lie down in bed. I stop and notice how comfortable I am. I revel in the softness of the blankets, the pillows, the feeling of peace and nowhere to go, no one needing me, just comfort. I recite these words over and over again for a few minutes “I feel so good right now.” This puts me in a great state of mind to settle in and be in alignment to feel even better.

Just that one affirmation of feeling good helps to keep me feeling better, and if I am in any physical discomfort, I find it ebb away along with those words.

Instead of just rushing through those minutes of pure comfort, I take stock of each one. Noticing these tiny, “good” things builds a foundation of positive thoughts and raises your vibration/emotion to a higher level.

More Small Steps To Feeling Better

The weather here has been very disappointing this spring with lots of rain and cold. Everyone in New Hampshire is quite discouraged by it. So instead of jumping from “the weather stinks and I hate this cold,” I have been trying instead to say “well, it is April and warm weather is just around the corner.” Or “at least the sun is out today, and I can feel its warmth through the window.” These are slightly better thoughts, not all the way to “wow! This warm, sunny day is incredible,” but close enough to keep the doldrums away.

If you can, throughout your day, find ways to baby step yourself to a better thought. Don’t try to leap all the way with one thought, just closer to something that makes you feel good. If you make this a daily practice, you can’t help but find your mood improving. You will also feel better physically and your days, instead of being filled with irritation will be more comfortable and more pleasant. No matter what goes on around you, you can choose how you want to feel and what kind of day you want to have.

Remember, you have complete control over how you feel. Many of us don’t believe that, but it is true. You can prove it to yourself by trying this technique. Change your thought; change your feeling. It’s that simple!
