Like many people, I often struggle with insecurity and self-confidence. I expect myself to be perfect and I am far from it. For the past few weeks, I have been working with a dear friend who is a spiritual hypnotherapist to overcome these obstacles so that I can finish writing my book on relationships and get it published. My dream is to help others on a large scale, and this book is part of that plan.

Not Being Perfect is Better Than Okay

When I decided to start my own spiritual business to inspire others and help them find more joy, more freedom, and more success, I was terrified. Some days I still feel like a mess so I wondered how I could help anyone else. Since then, I have realized that I don’t have to have it all figured out and be perfect to help other people. I am merely sharing my journey and my stories, and because we are all human, they resonate with my readers. If all I talked about was how perfect my life is (and it is not), I don’t think anyone could relate to that. So instead I choose to tell it how it is, all the messy parts, the wonderful strides forward, the lessons learned and everything in between.

I truly believe that my mission in life is to help others through my words and I hope I am doing just that. I have heard from a few readers that they actually took steps in their own lives to change something after reading one of my blogs. Nothing could make me happier. So even though I am not perfect, I am still able to connect with and help people through my sharing.

Fake it Until You Make It

A friend of mine who is a long-time member of AA discusses this topic with his sponsees. I remember when he first got sober and completed his program. He still felt depressed; he still felt like he was a wreck and could not imagine helping anyone else. We talked a lot about it and came to the conclusion that sometimes a newcomer needs to see someone else who doesn’t have it all together, they can relate better to that than someone who is walking on air.

My friend did start helping people, and now he is one of the most motivational speakers in AA. He is really amazing to hear. He has come a long way, but until he felt worthy of helping people, he just started doing it until it felt natural. They have a saying in AA just for this “fake it until you make it.”

Don’t Let Fear Hold You Back

If you are waiting to make a change in your life or do something great because you don’t think you are perfect enough, do it anyway, don’t wait any longer. You may never be as perfect as you want to be, but you have something of value to offer the world. Someone needs to hear what you have to say or see your beautiful creation. You just might find, you were already perfect, just the way you are.
